Dr Jing Guan, a research staff member in the Centre for Water and Waste Technology (CWWT) at UNSW visited the Shenyang Key Laboratory of Environmental Engineering (Key Lab) as a Visiting Professor from 11 April to 5 May.
The purpose of the visit was to expand collaborative activities with the Key Lab and to further encourage professional exchange and the development of research links between Australia and China stated in the agreement.
Whilst in Shenyang, Dr Guan reviewed a range of collaborative projects between the key Lab and CWWT and took part in a number of specific activities including:
- Drafting of a design for an indoor laboratory which would incorporate various wastewater treatment pilot plants.
- Communicated with officers in the Ministry of Science & Technology in China and clarified details of the application procedure.
- Formally participated in discussions about ongoing projects on contaminated mining site remediation, ecological planning for industrial cities and environmentally sustainable development.
- Set up an experimental process for leachate and wastewater treatment which includes chemical, biological and membrane methods.
This visit consolidated activities between the Australian and Chinese partners. Staff in both the Key Lab and CWWT will follow up the activities initiated by Dr Guan in Shenyang.
