To further progress activities under the Collaborative Agreement between the Shenyang Key Laboratory of Environmental Engineering (Key Lab) and the Centre for Water and Waste Technology (CWWT), a delegation from the Key Lab visited CWWT from 21 March to 28 March, 2005.
Professors Lina Sun and Shuwei Wang, the members of the delegation, met with the Director of CWWT, Professor David Waite, to discuss the progress made on collaborative activities in the 6 months since the Agreement was signed. Professor Nick Ashbolt then gave a presentation on Environmental Microbiology and Pathogen Risk Assessment activities within CWWT.
During the one week visit, Professors Sun and Wang also visited Sydney Olympic Park and CSIRO and ANSTO as scheduled by the Centre.
Professors Sun and Wang found the insights gained into wetland management and wastewater reuse at the Sydney Olympic Park site particularly useful given the interest in these technologies in Shenyang.
In the meeting with scientists at CSIRO and ANSTO, Professor Waite summarised the common research points among CWWT, the Key Lab and the research groups in CSIRO and ANSTO and emphasised the possibility and importance for this international collaboration. All attendees agreed to put invest effort toward establishing an international linkage in environmental engineering research with a focus on contaminated water remediation and contaminated soil and mining site remediation.
Decision was reached that funding would be sought in 2006 through the Australia-China Science and Technology Scheme for joint activities in contaminated soil and mining site remediation and MBR for wastewater treatment and reuse.
